Wilsonsingersongwriter.com is a companion website to Christian Matijas-Mecca’s The Words and Music of Brian Wilson (Praeger, 2017). This site lists Brian Wilson’s commercially available works released between 1961 and 2017 where he is author, performer, producer, or collaborator. Constructed by Matijas-Mecca with Laura Dzubay and Bailey Minney, from the University of Michigan’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, the construction of this site was in part made possible through a Block Grant from the University of Michigan’s School of Music, Theatre & Dance.
It is a challenge to construct a works list for any artist whose career spans over a half-century, and in the case of Brian Wilson, it is fraught with a significant amount of conflicting data and misinformation. With over eight-hundred individual entries to compile, Laura, Bailey, and I are indebted to Brad Elliot’s excellent bibliography, Surf’s Up!: The Beach Boys on Record 1961-1981 (Popular Culture, Ink, 1991). His thorough and painstaking research provided us with the most comprehensive and accurate record for music released between 1961 and 1981. Until Elliot has an opportunity to release the long-awaited second volume to Surf’s Up!, we hope this site can serve fans as much as his work served us.
